Vietnam War Helicopter Books Are Ever Popular

By Toni Vang

Many people love to immerse themselves in a good book whether it is a non-fiction or fiction. It is away to transport oneself into another world away from the pressures of real time. Vietnam War helicopter books are very popular as it is all about the action and drama.

A fiction book is one that is written from the imagination of the writer and these are generally of romance, mysteries, thrillers and fantasies. Some very popular and well read titles are A Tale of Two Cities written by Charles Dickens in eighteen fifty nine and To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee in nineteen sixty. Another one that many will keep going back to read is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen in eighteen thirteen.

When asking those that love to read when the best time is, many will say that just before one turns out the light at night. It is an excellent way to begin to relax and will help to calm the mind as well as clear it of all the hassles that have taken place during the day. Reading with a dim light not only relaxes the body but also gives signals to the brain that it is nearly sleep time.

A study was conducted that getting lost in a good book can actually increase ones empathy. It is described as having the ability to see the world as someone else. To really understand as well as share someone else's concerns, feelings, needs and emotional state. To be good at this one must have an effective communication basis as well as a strong imagination.

A movie was made from this and was directed by Randall Wallace. Mel Gibson starred in it as Moore. It is a historical true-life book and was published in October nineteen ninety two. The Vietnamese government did not agree to this movie and the Vietnamese commander portrayed in this movie was condemned as a traitor. He and his family were later allowed to move to the United States of America in 2003.

After a few rejections he took a job as a deckhand on a boat bound to Columbia and was later arrested as the boat had a large load of marijuana on it. While he was waiting trial he learned that his book has been purchased by Viking Press and immediately began to finish it. He managed to complete the book by that Christmas and in June of nineteen eighty two the editing was finally done.

Robert Mason was convicted of smuggling and was given a five year sentence in a minimum security prison but was fortunately allowed to remain free pending an appeal. He was incarcerated towards the end of August nineteen eight three and was released in May two years later. A few days before he was incarcerated his book was published and it got a glowing review from the New York Times. He was interviewed many times and the book was to be made into a film and directed by John Carpenter, unfortunately it never got that far.

This book became both hardcover as well as paperback and was a best seller, all while he was still imprisoned. He was not able to continue writing while in prison but later published two other novels, Weapon and Solo. He also wrote a second memoir of Chickenhawk with the subtitle Back in the World.
